One of the discussions I have with a lot of customers is around managed security services. Especially themes like Security Operation Centers seem to be fairly emotional as quite some customers want to build and run one themselves (and yes, I know the challenges around regulation). One of the points I often make is the challenge they face (or will face) when they try to hire the right people. In a lot of countries, it is close to impossible to find the people with the right skills willing to work shifts. Once you found them, the next challenge is how you want to develop and retain them and make sure you do not lose the key people once you trained them.
And it seems to get worse: Cyber-Workforce Shortage to Increase to 1.8 Million Positions by 2022
Besides the cost advantage and the economy of scale with regards of knowledge sharing, this is most probably one of the best arguments to make for Managed Security Services. I see that it is sometimes not that easy for us to find the right people even in Eastern Europe (one of our fusion centers is located in Prague) but we are still successful – for a lot of customers it is simply impossible.
At least, as a final conclusion, the value of skilled people is rather growing – so our jobs will be secured…
