I just got informed today, that I have been elected as a full member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences. The vision of the SATW is:
SATW is recognized as the principal organisation for the communication of independent, objective and comprehensive information about technology – as a basis for the forming of well-founded opinions – and as an effective institution for the promotion of engineering sciences and new technologies in Switzerland.
Now, the reason, why I am really honored is, that
Full Members are people who are particularly committed to the objectives of the Academy or the engineering sciences.
As I was never in really working in the academic world (I “just” have a Master of Computer Science of the Federal Institute of Technology), I have never seen me near any of these goals. Especially, looking at the full members’ list, I am one of the few without a PhD – and you cannot apply, you have to be proposed, supported and elected. Prof. Dr. Bernhard Hämmerli, whom I have worked with closely over the years proposed me because of the work I have done so far in the security arena. Prof. Dr. Carl August Zehnder, a professor who taught me during my Master supported the proposal.
I have to admit, I am fairly proud.
