In the two years as a Chief Security Officer at Swisscom, I had the privilege to work with a really outstanding team to prove what I said since years: Security has to be a business enabler – even in one of the most critical infrastructures of a country. Together we removed the dust from the image of security and were able to establish ourselves – in a surprisingly short timeframe – as a partner for the projects and the business. Not everything was sunshine though. Such a change causes turbulences and you need to play the role of a colored bird within an organization (and yes, you need to play this role as a CSO …). Another interesting experience I had the chance to make.
Discussions with peers of mine over the last two years showed that the challenge we addressed is a challenge we find in a lot of companies. How do you create value from a security organization? How do you enable the business through security? How do you make security transparent and forward looking? Is it even possible to drive innovation through security (sounds weird, I know)? And a lot of other questions which pop up in the minds of CEOs today.
Therefore it is time to move on. After a short break I will start with Accenture November, 1st. Financial Services within Accenture is in the process of building a dedicated consulting practice for Security and Resilience to focus on the specific agenda of their industries: Banking, Insurance and Capital Markets. That’s an exciting time to help Financial Services largest companies and emerging leaders create value dealing with hot topics like Security, Resilience and the corresponding technologies and services. I have noticed Accenture gaining traction over the years acquiring, growing and establishing its global footprint in the Security business. I’m delighted to get the opportunity to lead the go-to-market in Financial Services growing new thought leaders and practitioners. In this context we will start with Austria, Switzerland, and Germany and grow stepwise from there in other geo’s as well as globally. As we start in these regions by addressing an increasingly growing demand, there are a lot of opportunities to expand the boundaries both personally and as a business. If somebody is willing to start the ride with me – we are hiring! We are definitely looking for security people who dare to grow that), shape a new team and bring to live a new security culture focused on strengthening business and creating opportunities.
