Just read this post by Martijn Grooten ‘Why I fell victim to a LinkedIn scam – and why I would do so again tomorrow’. It is basically about when you accept connection requests on LinkedIn, Xing, Facebook etc. I agree with Martjin that I treat stuff I write on these platforms as public but still, when do you accept requests?
For me it is fairly simple: I try to figure out (low bar) whether the person might actually exist and I trust my network of people I really know. So, if a connection request is from a person who has connections to people I know in real life, I will going to accept them. Facebook is different as I accept only request by people I actually really know.
How do you treat this?
